How to collect club dues online

Five steps take a club from checks in an envelope to dues paid from a phone, without losing the members who still pay at the meeting.

1. Write your dues down the way your club already does them

Start from your bylaws. List each membership type, its price and when it renews: once a year on a set date, or a year from the day each member joined. Note any household or student rates. Our free bylaws dues wording has sample clauses if yours are unclear.

2. Connect a payment account in the club's name

Online dues need a payment processor, and the account should belong to the club, not to a volunteer. With renuzy you connect your club's own Stripe account, so member payments go to the club's bank account on Stripe's payout schedule. Already on Stripe? Keep it, and connect it.

The fewer steps between the email and the payment, the more members renew. A renuzy member taps the link in the renewal email, sees what they owe, pays by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and gets a receipt. Members can also renew by saved card, split dues into installments, or pay what they can if your club allows it.

4. Let the reminders do the chasing

Most of a treasurer's time goes on follow ups. Set the reminders once: one before each member's renewal date, and more after it if you want them. Each one goes out as your club, with replies coming to you, and stops the moment a member pays. Our free renewal email templates are a good starting point for the wording.

5. Keep recording the money that arrives some other way

Some members will always pay by check at the meeting. Record cash and checks in seconds, with a receipt and an end of night tally. Members who paid by Venmo, PayPal, Cash App or Zelle can tell you so, and nothing counts until an officer approves it.

Questions

What does it cost to collect dues online with renuzy?

renuzy is a flat monthly price for your club's size, from $19 a month for up to 100 members, and takes 0% of your dues. Stripe charges its own card fee, currently 2.9% plus 30¢ on a US card.

Can members pay with Venmo or Zelle?

Your club's own Venmo, PayPal, Cash App and Zelle handles show as buttons on each member's Payments page. Members pay the club in that app, tell you they paid, and an officer approves it.

Where does the money go?

Into your club's own Stripe account, then to your club's bank account on Stripe's payout schedule. It never passes through renuzy.
