Moving your member list from a spreadsheet

Bring the spreadsheet you already have. renuzy works out which column is which, shows you a preview, and saves nothing until you say so.

Before you start

  • Give each person their own row. A couple who pay together still go on two rows.
  • Keep the email column. renuzy uses it for reminders and receipts, and to spot people listed twice.
  • Keep the column that says when dues run out. A column such as Paid Through or Expires becomes each member's renewal date.
  • Leave everything else as it is. Extra columns and untidy rows are fine.

Bringing it in

  1. Save your list as an Excel or CSV file, or copy the link to your Google Sheet.
  2. Go to Members and press Import.
  3. Choose your file, paste the Google Sheets link, or paste the rows into the box.
  4. Press Check the file. renuzy matches each column to what it holds.
  5. Read the preview: who will come in, who looks listed twice, and anything missing.
  6. Press the button that says how many people will be imported.

Nothing is emailed to members during an import. When it is done, open Data check to see what is still missing, such as an email address or a renewal date.

If something looks wrong

  • If a column was matched to the wrong thing, press Change how columns are matched on the preview.
  • If the Google Sheets link will not open, press Share in Google Sheets and set General access to Anyone with the link.
  • If you imported the wrong file, go to Imports you have made and press Take this import back. You have 30 days.
  • People without an email or a last name still come in, and the data check lists them so you can fix them later.

Rather not do it yourself?

Send us the file from the same page and a person moves your list for free. A paper list works too: send a photo or a PDF and we type it up. You check it before anything is saved.

Not ready to move yet? Our free club dues tracker keeps the list tidy in the meantime, and households have a page of their own.

Questions

Which files work?

Excel, Google Sheets and CSV files, and a list you keep yourself. If a file has several tabs, renuzy uses the one with the email addresses.

Can I bring a list from another membership tool?

Yes. Exports from Mailchimp, Join It, WildApricot and ClubExpress are recognised, and an export from any other tool works as an ordinary spreadsheet.

Does moving the list cost extra?

No. It is free on every plan, whether you do it yourself or send us the file.
